Direction to Supply arrangements ensure eligible customers in any given retail exit area can secure a retail supplier following the exit of an undertaker.
For example, if a non-household customer has no retailer they can request to be assigned one through the Ofwat process.
Eligible premises that are not registered in CMOS will not be able to switch in the retail market. Customers who occupy sites not registered in the market, in a retail exit area, will either have to choose their retailer or have a retailer assigned to them by the market operator (MOSL).

The Market Terms set out steps that should be followed by retailers in the case of a Direction to Supply.
CSD 0005 (Direction to Supply allocation process) details the process for retailers to opt in and how supply points are allocated to retailers.
