Circumstance

As part of the switching process for metered premises, the incoming retailer must organise a meter read of the supply point for the outgoing retailer, in order to calculate the final bill for the customer and for the incoming retailer to commence billing.

Customer touchpoint

Transfer reads are important for the customer to calculate their final bill on switching and all future bills from the incoming retailer. A transfer read requires access to the property, unless the read is estimated.

Obligations under the codes

Incoming retailers are responsible for arranging and submitting the transfer read for the registration start date, within the read window. This is set out in more detail in CSD 0102 (Registration: transfers). It should be noted, that the outgoing retailer may be asked to assist in this process.

If meter networks exist, the appropriate data owners will be notified by the incoming retailer to provide a read.
